[01.01.2010] SNSD wears black on the red carpet

SNSD entered the KBS song festival in gorgeous black dresses.

On this day, Park Jin Young and Son Dambi performed a sexy dance together as a special stage. On top of this, MC Mong and Lee Seungi joined up as a ’1night 2days’ couple and performed a special stage. Also, Shin Seung Hoon and 2PM also joined together in a performance, Kim Gun Mo and SNSD performed together, and Lee Seung Chul and 2NE1 performed together as well. These joint performances drew the attention of the audience members.

Also, 2PM, SNSD, Super Junior, Kara, Kim Taewoo, etc took part in a memorial performance of the ‘King of Pop’ who unfortunately passed away in June of this year.

2009 have been a relatively great year with lots of music releases including group debuts. Let’s not forget the few fashion statement the idols have made before we end 2009.

Glow In The Dark Outfits
Taking fashion to another level, the girls transitioned from normal stage outfits to glowed outfits for their goodbye stage on October 17, 2009. Definitely something unique and special! Will we get to see glowed outfits in 2010? Watch the performance here.

Military Outfits
Clad in marine military outfits and army, SNSD and Brown Eyed Girls aren’t just making a fashion statement, they are ready for war among the other girl groups.

2NE1′s CL extensive collection of eyewear.
Not the normal eyewear everyone who go for, the baddest female shows us her huge collection of sunglasses which can compete with Lady GaGa. Brands includes Maison Martin Margiela, Luella, Bless and many more.

Lego Rings
Something we have not seen before, the lego rings 2NE1 have been sporting since debut have definitely garnered lots of attention. 2NE1′s stylists, Yang Seung Ho and Lee Hyun Jung tells 2NE1tv that it was specially made for the girls.

Tattoo Sleeves
Instead of going through the pain of getting a real tattoo, SS501 is definitely making a fashion statement with Han Sang Hyuk Spring/Summer 2010 Tattoo Collection.

Leggings
Whether its cut-out or patterned, leggings were definitely a fashion statement between the girl groups. Most of the girl groups had one of the girls wearing them in their performance.

Sneakers/High Tops
The ladies are throwing away their heels for sneakers! They are definitely influencing young ladies to wear the sneakers.

Black Leather Outfits
Be it leather jackets, pvc outfits the ladies are definitely rockin’ the rock chic look. Looking sexy as ever, you can probably do no wrong in an all black ensemble.

When it comes to making strides, this decade was all about Asian pop acts making them in the world of Asian pop music. Aside from sheer talent and devoted fan bases, the biggest driving force and probably the reason why you know about these Asian pop stars is because of well, the Internet. While I didn’t make it on my own list of Top Asian Pop Acts of the Decade, I’m sure you’ll agree wholeheartedly with my choices. And maybe we’ll see me around for the next decade. (Or not.)

1. BoA: Admittedly, I am by no means the biggest BoA fan out there. Yet, given her success in the Asian pop music world and her attempts at infiltrating the American mainstream, I’d be a fool not to mention that this was her decade. I’m sure you’d all skin me alive if I didn’t place her at the top. (BoA on Top, anyone?)

2. Utada: Who’s bigger than Madonna in Japan? This woman is. Sidenote: She was my first taste of Asian pop music. Her First Love album remains one of my favorite albums of all time.

3. Ayumi Hamasaki: Hamasaki basically wrote the book on Jpop music. As far as music goes, I’ve given up keeping track of every release and the 10 different remixes that follow. Aside from being a tireless Jpop star, she’s also fashion inspiration and a trendsetter for a lot of people.

4. Rain: I know what you’re thinking. It’s not because this man sent me a birthday card for my birthday this year. Rain is something of an Asian Michael Jackson. Everything he’s produced musically has turned into gold. He’s also one of few Asian pop stars to break into the Hollywood scene. ::cough:: Ninja Assassin ::cough::

5. The Wonder Girls: Inspiring dance crazes, touring with The Jonas Brothers, a slew of hit songs that will soon be available to the mainstream…do I dare continue? The Wonder Girls are huge!

6. Tata Young: Of the pop stars listed, Thai-based Tata Young is the only pop star who’s fame has spanned almost two decades. Internationally, she’s more than just a pop star but a model and actress. Her list of entertainment industry accolades is kind of intimidating.

7. Jay Chou: What gets me every time is the fact that Jay Chou has been listed this decade as a Taiwanese musician, singer, producer, actor and director. It’s been said that pop stars who spread themselves too thinly don’t produce great stuff. With Jay, such is not the case with 4 World Music Awards and a role as Kato in the upcoming The Green Hornet film.

8. Se7en: Se7en is indeed a lucky number and pop star. He remains as one of few Kpop stars that have pursued the mission of crossing over to America. His career leading up to this has been quite impressive in racking all the Kpop hits. While his future in America is uncertain (or canned), he’ll always have Korea.

9. Lee Hom Wang: Like Jay Chou, Lee Hom Wang’s pop music career is something to not overlook. To me he was quite a musical chameleon with musical styles ranging from jazz to rock, yet…still popular. Nothing is ever the same with him, and that’s what makes him interesting to listen to. Not to mention, he’s also got acting under his belt.

10. Namie Amuro: After almost two decades and a family, it’s really impressive that she’s still going on strong with the hits. I admire the fact that she’s reinvented herself every single time.

Honorable Mention: Charice Pempengco
Okay. So, I’m totally aware she hasn’t been around in this decade for that long, but I’m sure a big handful of you would agree that her voice could very well be…the voice of a decade.

[31.12.09] Song Festival’s most popular song of the year???

At the KBS song festival, the most popular song will be selected based on how much love was received by the song throughout the year. There were 7 canditates, and the competition was very tight.

On December the 30th, at 9:55 pm, at Yeouido’s KBS broadcast center, the 2009 Song Festival was hosted by Hwang Soo Joon, Kim Kyung Ran, and Han Suk Joon.

This year, seven songs were in particular loved a lot by fans. 2PM’s Again&Again, Super Junior’s Sorry Sorry, SNSD’s Gee, 2NE1′s I Don’t Care, Kara’s Mister, Davichi’s 8282, Park Ji Young’s Like Being Hit By a Bullet, were all in a tight competition for the best song of the year.

On this day, the opening performance was Lee Seungi with his song ‘Love Is’ which was performed with his active dancing and his beautiful voice.

After Lee Seungi’s performance, 4minute performed ‘Muzik’ and Hot Issue’, which was followed by Park Jin Young’s ‘No Love No More’, which were performed with powerful dancing.

[31.12.09] T-ara to release traditional version of “Bo Peep Bo Peep”

After releasing a Christmas version of Bo Peep Bo Peep, T-ara is planning on releasing a traditional version of the song. Traditional as in old-fashioned Korean music style. I think they might be the first idol group to do this, right?

To celebrate the New Year’s, T-ara wants to get a little traditional. What better way than to do it and promote your new song?

Since they wore Santa and snowman outfits for their Christmas version, I’m guessing they’ll dress in hanbok for this one. Hanbok is the traditional Korean attire.

But it might be crazier than hanbok because their company said, “The clothes are a lot more surprising than the Christmas version. That’s why we’ll set up a little event for fans.”

[31.12.09] Nicole was lonely in Korea

Nicole of Kara talked about how hard it was for her to adjust to Korea when she moved there from Los Angeles. On an episode of Mnet Nicole the Entertainer’s Introduction to Veterinary Science, she started to tear up talking about the hard experience.

While playing a game with her celebrity look-alike friends, she lost and they made her talk about the hardest time in her life.

Nicole said,

I was born and raised in America and when I first came to Korea, the differences were so huge I didn’t even contact my old friends. I went to one of my American friend’s online networking page and the friend looked so happy in their picture with their friends. I was thinking about how I was all alone and it was so hard for me to cope with that. I met some really great friends in Korea but but until then, I had no one to enjoy happiness nor sadness with except for my family.

She’s definitely a busy girl these days. She had to get ready for all the year-end shows and study hard for her final exam in college. But her busy schedule is probably not as bad as what she went through when she first came to Korea.

[31.12.09] WG to carry out promotions in China -, Alongside with that in the States

How will the WonderGirls carry out their promotions in China?

It has been revealed that Wonder Girls will be releasing their official album in China coming mid-January 2010. And plans are that their Chinese promotions will be carried out side by side to their American promotions.

A JYP Entertainment staff said, “They will sing the Chinese versions of ‘Nobody’ and ‘Tell Me’ etc. And they will start promotions after the album release.”

Already, the Wonder Girls had held their independent concert in Shanghai previously on 1st December, and has received overwhelming response and popularity. There are plans for the Wonder Girls to make a name in the Chinese music market, working towards the title of a world star.

And when asked if their American activities will be put aside with their Chinese promotions, the staff said, “They will release an album in the States in February. And they wil do their best for their American promotions too.””
